MCDC hold annual meeting and present to UK MPs at the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases

Annual meeting

The Malaria Capacity Development Consortium (MCDC) held its fourth Annual meeting in New Orleans 31st Oct - 2 Nov '14 at the Hilton Riverside Hotel. Over 80 people associated with MCDC attended the meeting and contributed to its success.The guest lecture was delivered by Prof Francine Ntoumi from the Congolese Foundation for Medical Research, Republic of Congo. Dr Evelyn Ansah and Dr Youssoupha Ndiaye were awarded a prize for the best oral presentations by a post doc and PhD student, respectively, and Dr Magatte Ndiaye and Joaniter Nankabirwa received prizes for the best posters overall.

Following on from this meeting 24 students and post-docs presented their work at the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) meeting.  

APPMG meeting

The MCDC was invited to present to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (APPMG) at a meeting held at the House of Commons on the 10th Nov '14. Prof Brian Greenwood presented an overview of the MCDC model in strengthening malaria research capacity and this was followed by presentations from MCDC post docs Dr Evelyn Ansah, Dr. Sanie Sesay and Dr Wilson Mandala. The meeting came to a successful conclusion with a screening of the MCDC film which was well received by MP Jeremy Lefroy, Barroness Hayman and other patrons attending.
