Seminar | Plasmodium falciparum parasites with histidine-rich protein deletions: implications for diagnosis and case management

24 January 2018, 12:30 pm
Bennett Room, Keppel Street
ITD Seminar

Summary

The talk will focus on the emergence of P. falciparum parasites with pfhrp2 and pfhrp3 deletions in Africa and the impact of such deletions on RDT performance, clinical case management and malaria control. The strategy of identifying hrp2-deleted clones including those masked in polyclonal infections using genome sequence data will be elucidated. Recent data from Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda will be shown. The possible consequences of such deletions to the parasite and host will also be discussed.
