Who we are


The Centre is led by Director chris [dot] drakeley [at] lshtm [dot] ac [dot] uk (Chris Drakeley) and Deputy Director sian [dot] clarke [at] lshtm [dot] ac [dot] uk (Sian Clarke).

Steering Committee

The activities of the Centre are structured around research themes. Each theme has a designated leader who also forms part of the Steering Committee.The Steering Committee oversees and monitors the Centre's membership, activities, income, resourcing and overall performance:

Capacity Strengthening:  Sir Brian Greenwood, Professor of Clinical Tropical Medicine, Malaria Centre Head of Capacity Strengthening;

Parasite Biology: Professor David Baker, Professor of Malaria Parasite Biology, Malaria Centre Head of Parasite Biology;

Immunology and Vaccination: Professor Eleanor Riley, Professor of Immunology, Malaria Centre Head of Immunology and Vaccination;

Drug Development, Deployment and Resistance: Dr Colin Sutherland, Reader in Parasitology, Malaria Centre Head of Drugs;

Statistics, Epidemiology and Population Health: Dr Paul Milligan, Reader in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics and Professor Immo Kleinschmidt, Professor of Epidemiology, Joint Malaria Centre Heads of Statistics;

Monitoring and Evaluation: Professor David Schellenberg, Professor of Malaria & International Health, Malaria Centre Head of M&E;

Public Health Interventions: Dr Jo Lines, Reader of Malaria Control and Vector Biology,
Malaria Centre Head of Public Health Interventions;

Clinical Trials and Studies: Professor Daniel Chandramohan, Professor of Public Health, Malaria Centre Head of Clinical Trials;

Vector Studies: Professor Mark Rowland, Professor of Medical Entomology and Malaria Control, Malaria Centre Head of Vector Studies;

Social and Economic Studies: Dr Clare Chandler, Senior Lecturer in Medical Anthropology, Malaria Centre Head of Social and Economic Studies.

Activity leaders

The activities of the Centre are also supported by student engagement representatives (currently Deborah DiLiberto and Katherine Theiss-Nyland) and seminar coordinators (currently Kevin Tetteh and Jackie Cook).


The Centre membership is made up of a network of researchers, students and support staff within the School and beyond, with expertise in malaria from a range of disciplines.
